Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine
2010 Annual Meeting

The Integration of Art and Science
April 7-10, 2010
Westin Harbour Castle Hotel
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The SAHM Annual Meeting is the premier, multidisciplinary, educational event in adolescent medicine. The meeting offers innovative research, clinical workshops and discussion forums for attendees of diverse disciplines and from around the world.

SAHM members also help to plan and coordinate professional adolescent health education programs — in all regions of the United States and across the globe. These programs are directed at specialists in the field as well as other interested health professionals aiming to acquire skills to meet the unique needs of adolescents.

This year’s meeting will also serve as the first under the association’s new identity, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. Though the name will be changing, the mission of the Society remains the same:  to improve the physical and psychosocial health of adolescents. Join your peers at the meeting and help SAHM embark on a vibrant transition with a broader multidisciplinary approach to adolescent health.

A Case for Evidence-Based Adolescent Medicine

Many potential interventions for adolescents involve trade-offs between desirable and undesirable consequences. Unless clinicians are aware of the best estimates of these desirable and undesirable consequences, and the uncertainty associated with these estimates, they are in at a considerable disadvantage in helping their patients to choose between competing alternatives. Evidence-based approaches to clinical decision-making provide a framework for addressing this issue.
