Since the turn of the century, vaccines targeted towards adolescents have been developed. Clinicians are now faced with the challenge of ensuring their adolescent patients are adequately protected against vaccine-preventable illnesses. The human papillomavirus vaccine(s), in particular, continues to have poor uptake despite its proven safety profile. The rationale for immunizing adolescents as well as specific strategies to increase vaccine uptake will be addressed.
At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
Describe how the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices formulates its recommendations for adolescent immunizations.
List two of the most recent recommendations for vaccinating adolescents
Compare and contrast immunization rates for selected adolescent vaccines
Implement one to two practice strategies for increasing vaccine uptake among adolescents
