Contraception
The focus of the Special Interest Group,
Contraception, is on a variety of topics. The forum allows
health care providers, at every skill level and interest to
network and to develop research ideas. The atmosphere encourages
friendly exchange of clinical questions that allows us to
enhance our management of various contraceptive problems.
We have been able to explore the complication and side effects
of various contraception devices such as emergency contraction,
oral contraception, Depo Provera and Norplant. Discussed and
explored are research questions such as how do providers'
attitudes and counseling effect contraception choice, sexual
education, and the latest topic of sexual abstinence and its
role in contraception choices. Adequate access to contraception
services and compliance to contraception devices are other
issues discussed. It is the aim of the group to have a supportive
atmosphere that is comfortable to providers heavily involved
in contraception research and services as well as to the novice
research-clinicians. The group is dynamic and its participants
direct the "hot topic" of the month. Exchange of
clinical information with our international colleagues, exploring
new options to prevent teen pregnancy, developing internet
access and an information page for adolescent (teens) seeking
advice, are the more recent emphases of the group.
All persons interested in pregnancy prevention
or related topics are welcome to join us.
