Promise - The Alliance for Youth
This is a national organization led by General Colin Powell
which serves as a nationwide catalyst for public, private
and non-profit organizations to focus their combined talents
and resources to improve the lives of the nation's youth.

Board
on Children, Youth, and Families
The Board on Children, Youth, and Families (BOCYF) of the
National Research Council provides a national focal point
for authoritative, nonpartisan analysis of child and family
issues relevant to policy decisions. This site contains organizational
information; descriptions of current and completed activities
including the BOCYF's Forum on Adolescence (with a number
of on-line and downloadable reports); and a list of publications
which may be viewed in full on-line or ordered in hardcopy.
Examples of publications include Youth Development and
Neighborhood Influences, Violence and the American
Family, America's Children: Health Insurance and Access
to Care, and Protecting Youth at Work.
Division
of Children and Youth Policy
The DCYP, a division of the Office of Human Services Policy
within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning
and Evaluation, DHHS, undertakes a variety of research and
evaluation projects on issues affecting children and youth.
Executive summaries and, in some cases, the full report of
recent projects are available on-line. Titles of interest
include Trends in the Well-Being of America's Children
and Youth, Comprehensive Service Integration Programs
for At Risk Youth, Patterns of Adolescent Time Us,
Research Findings on Evaluations of Positive Youth Development
Programs, and the National Strategy to Prevent Teen
Pregnancy as well as annual reports to congress on teen
pregnancy prevention.
The
Future of Children
Published three times a year by The David and Lucile Packard
Foundation, each issue includes a series of scholarly papers
which, collectively, cover the title topic in depth. Past
titles include such subjects as Children and Managed Care,
Protecting Children from Abuse and Neglect, The Juvenile Court,
Critical Issues for Children and Youth, Adoption, and
School Linked Services. Recent issues are available
on-line; all issues can be ordered in hard copy format at
no charge.
Kids Count
Kids Count, a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation,
tracks the status of children in the United States. This site
provides extensive national and state-by-state trend data
on various indicators of child and youth well-being with substantial
data on adolescents including teen deaths rate by accident,
homicide, and suicide; teen birth rates; juvenile violent
crime arrest rates; percentages of teens who are high school
dropouts; and percentages of teens not attending school and
not working.
Search
Institute
The Search Institute is an independent, nonprofit, nonsectarian
organization with the goal of advancing the well-being of
adolescents and children by generating knowledge and promoting
its practical application. Research and action focus on the
role of protective and resilience factors—or "developmental
assets"— for healthy development. This site primarily
describes the Institute's orientation, activities, services,
and publications. Some survey data on the percentages of secondary
school youth who are endowed with developmental assets also
is available on-line.
