Al-Anon
/ Alateen
Al-Anon for adults and Alateen for youth are programs that
offer self-help recovery programs for families and friends
of alcoholics. This site provides a directory of national
and regional Al-Anon/Alateen groups and resources in the United
States and Canada together with contact information; a description
of the AA 12 step program on which all related self-help programs
are based; questions for prospective members to ask to determine
whether they are ready to join; and patient/client referral
information for professionals.
Monitoring
the Future Study
The MFS, conducted by the Institute for Social Research of
the Univ. of Michigan, is an annual nationwide survey covering
licit and illicit substance use/abuse among 8th and 10th grade
students and a subset of each graduating class for a number
of years after their initial participation. Data tables and
figures for the most recent survey are available on line.
National
Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information
A service of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Admin., this site provides a wide range of online resources
on drugs and alcohol including reports on the annual Household
Survey on Drug Abuse; a database (ERIC, Medline, others) and
web search engines; research information; grants information;
online courses for professionals; publications for parents
and teens; a kids area; and related links.
National
Institute on Drug Abuse
This site contains a wide range of reports and information
(both professional and lay) on drugs of abuse including steroids,
club drugs, and tobacco; project funding and grants; research;
advisories; and the like. Access to NIDA Notes (a bimonthly
newsletter), NIDA InfoFax (fact sheets on drug abuse
in both English and Spanish), teaching support materials for
grades 5-9, and the latest Monitoring the Future Study
report on adolescent substance use/abuse are also on-line.

Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
This site provides both professional and public information
on substance abuse and a substance abuse treatment facility
locator. A number of reports are available online or for downloading
including The National Household Survey on Drug Abuse,
Statistics on Drug Abuse, Patterns of Alcohol Use Among Adolescents
and Associations with Emotional and Behavioral Problems, and
The Relationship between Mental Health and Substance Abuse
