SAHM 2020 Annual Meeting

The SAHM 2020 Annual Meeting has been cancelled. Full statement below.

It is with a heavy heart that I write to let you know that the SAHM leadership has decided not to hold the 2020 SAHM Annual Meeting as scheduled to begin Wednesday in San Diego.

From the beginning, the health and safety of all SAHM meeting attendees was of the utmost importance to us, and we based all decisions as to whether to hold the event on advice from local and national health officials (including the San Diego Health Department and CDC), as well as whether we could provide the high-quality content our Members and attendees expect.

SAHM leadership and staff have continued to closely monitor the situation regarding COVID-19 since our communication yesterday. Although there are no new travel advisories to California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not recommended that individuals postpone or avoid travel to destinations in the U.S., and the San Diego Health Department is still not recommending cancellation or rescheduling of large group meetings, the situation continues to evolve. Since yesterday, there have been additional registrant and speaker cancellations as well as implementation of additional institutional travel restrictions. Of note, we have just learned that the CDC will be limiting travel of their own personnel, despite not recommending travel restrictions more generally within the U.S. Our leadership conferred today and believe that there are likely to be more cancellations and institutional limitations on travel over the coming days. Several conferences in San Diego have just been or are likely to be cancelled. Therefore, based on all of the information available to us at this time, we have decided not to go ahead with the Annual Meeting as scheduled.

We realize that all of you are disappointed, especially the 2020 Annual Meeting Program Committee, led by Anisha Abraham and Nicholas Westers, 300+ presenters, and staff that have been working for a year to bring you the best Annual Meeting ever. But it is the right decision, and we know our SAHM family is resilient!

We hope you will be patient as we process the attendee Meeting refund options. Please wait for the SAHM staff to be in touch with you. In the meantime, do please take steps to cancel your hotel and flight reservations immediately.

We are considering all the options, including rescheduling the meeting at a later date. If the meeting is not rescheduled, we will be working to create ways in which we can disseminate content from the meeting so that presenters have an opportunity to share their expertise and all registrants have an opportunity to access as much of the content as possible.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we do our best to navigate through this unprecedented public health challenge.

If you have any questions, please contact SAHM Executive Director Ryan Norton.

Please mark your calendars for our 2021 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, March 10-13. I look forward to seeing you there, if not before.
