Call for Leadership Nominations
SAHM 2026-2027 Election Call for Nominations
The SAHM Nominations Committee is seeking nominations for the 2026-2027 leadership election. We seek and welcome nominations and self-nominations from all SAHM members.
Submitting a nomination is easy and requires less than two minutes to complete. Nominations are due by Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Service on SAHM’s Board of Directors or as a member of the Nominations Committee represents a major contribution to the Society. Nominations are encouraged on behalf of and directly from SAHM members interested in serving in a volunteer leadership position.
This November, SAHM voting members will participate in an election for the following offices:
- President-Elect – Duties and Responsibilities
- At-Large Member of the Board of Directors (2 positions) – Duties and Responsibilities
- Nominations Committee Member (2 positions) – Duties and Responsibilities
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, all nominees will be instructed on how to submit an application packet to be considered for inclusion on the slate of candidates for the 2026-2027 leadership election.
The application packet will include:
- A Curriculum Vitae
- A set of questions developed by the SAHM Nominations Committee
- A set of questions to identify the applicants geographic location & professional discipline
Application packets will be due by Thursday, September 11, 2025.
To select candidates to include on the slate for the 2026-2027 Leadership positions, the nominations committee will consider the following:
- Qualifications, leadership style, and unique contributions that make a strong candidate for a leadership role within SAHM.
- Experience and engagement in Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) health across key areas such as advocacy, clinical care, research, education and professional development—both within and beyond SAHM.
- Previously held SAHM leadership roles including, but not limited to, SAHM Committees, Regional Chapters, and the Publications Editorial Board.
- Geographic location and professional discipline not currently represented on the Board of Directors or Nominations Committee.
The election will begin in November. As required by the SAHM Bylaws, voting will be open for 30 days.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
President-Elect
Term of Service: 2026–2029
- President-Elect: 2026–2027
- President: 2027–2028
- Immediate Past President: 2028–2029
This is a three-year leadership commitment.
General Responsibilities
- Attend or participate in all regular meetings of the SAHM Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
- Remain accessible to Board colleagues and SAHM staff for consultation via phone and email.
- Succeed to the Presidency at the conclusion of the one-year term as President-Elect.
- Support the President in advancing SAHM’s mission, initiatives, and policies.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the President, Executive Director, and administrative staff to ensure continuity in leadership and organizational goals.
- Assist with SAHM’s fundraising efforts.
Meetings & Time Commitments
Executive Committee Participation:
- Monthly virtual (Zoom) meetings (approximately 1 hour each).
- Committee includes: President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Executive Director.
Board of Directors Participation:
- Five meetings per year: four virtual (Zoom), one in-person (held the day before the Annual Meeting begins).
- Meetings are typically two hours long.
- Meeting schedules are determined well in advance to encourage full participation.
Committee Appointment Responsibilities
The President-Elect oversees SAHM’s annual committee appointment process:
- Review current committee rosters and identify outgoing chairs and members.
- Consult with committee chairs to:
- Get feedback on members completing their first term.
- Recommend potential new members.
- Coordinate with administrative staff to:
- Send out a “Call for Volunteers” to the membership.
- Review chair recommendations and volunteer submissions.
Provide a final slate of appointment recommendations to the President for approval.
At-Large Member of the Board of Directors - (2 positions)
Time Commitment:
- Three-year term (2026–2029)
- Attend 5 regular meetings annually (1 in-person, 4 virtual via Zoom)
- Be available for additional meetings or consultations as needed
Responsibilities:
Governance & Oversight
- Represent and engage the general membership
- Understand and help shape SAHM’s strategic direction
- Review, approve, and monitor the annual budget and revenue-generating activities
- Uphold fiduciary duties as a nonprofit board member
Participation & Leadership
- Prepare for and actively participate in all Board meetings
- Contribute to leadership development and strategic planning
- Serve on working groups as needed
Advocacy & Representation
- Promote SAHM membership and value
- Act as an ambassador for SAHM in professional settings and media when designated
- Support and advocate for the Executive Director and staff
Publications & Policy
- Evaluate the need for position papers on adolescent health
- Review and approve all position paper proposals presented by the Director of Publications
Personal Commitment
- Prioritize SAHM in your volunteer activities
- Offer your skills, relationships, and expertise to support the Society’s mission
Nominations Committee Member - (2 positions)
SAHM Nominations Committee Member Responsibilities (2026–2028)
This two-year volunteer role requires active participation in all aspects of the nominations and election process. Committee members are expected to:
Attend Meetings: Participate in 1–2 virtual Zoom meetings each fall (typically one hour each, scheduled to support broad availability) and remain accessible for email or additional virtual consultations as needed.
Review Past Processes: Assess the prior year’s nominations process to identify areas for improvement.
Score Applications: Evaluate leadership applications using a standardized scoring rubric, as outlined in the established nominations process.
Develop Essay Questions: Work with fellow committee members to draft essay questions for each election category to support transparent, informed voting.
Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback on the process after each cycle to support continuous improvement.
