The bill would establish a minimum age for prosecution in juvenile court jurisdiction in California, protecting children under 12 years old from the harms and adverse consequences of justice system involvement and encouraging more effective alternatives to court involvement.

The Journal of Adolescent Health (JAH), the official publication of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM), has steadily risen through the rankings of medical journals and is now 5th out of 120 pediatric journals, up two slots from last year.

SAHM Writes Letter to Netflix

SAHM has some thoughts about Netflix's new show, 13 Reasons Why, a fictional portrayal of a teenage girl who commits suicide after being harassed and sexually assaulted. Although valuable by illumunating these difficult topics, the show may increase risks to vulnerable youth by motivating copycats or re-traumatizing victims.

 

The Road to Tolerance and Understanding

SAHM President Dr. Tamera Coyne-Beasley joined other leaders in the field of adolescent health in releasing a statement urging the entire adolescent health community to embrace tolerance and understanding. It was published simultaneously by JAH, Pediatrics and Academic Pediatrics.
