SAHM Writes Letter to Netflix


SAHM has some thoughts about Netflix's new show, 13 Reasons Why, a fictional portrayal of a teenage girl who commits suicide after being harassed and sexually assaulted. Although valuable by illumunating these difficult topics, the show may increase risks to vulnerable youth by motivating copycats or re-traumatizing victims.


The Road to Tolerance and Understanding


SAHM President Dr. Tamera Coyne-Beasley joined other leaders in the field of adolescent health in releasing a statement urging the entire adolescent health community to embrace tolerance and understanding. It was published simultaneously by JAH, Pediatrics and Academic Pediatrics.


Support of the Oral Contraceptives Over-the Counter Working Group


The working group is focused on the potential of OTC access to OCs to reduce disparities in reproductive health care access and outcomes among low-income, poor, and young women, and to increase opportunities for all people to access a safe, effective method of contraception, free of unnecessary gatekeeping by the health care system, as part of a healthy sexual and reproductive life.

SAHM Sends Letter in Support of SB 439


SAHM sent a letter to Senator Nancy Skinner, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Safety, expressing support of Senate Bill 439, which would establish a minimum age for prosecution in juvenile court jurisdiction in California.


SAHM Statement on Behalf of the International Chapter


SAHM has issued a statement highlighting the detrimental effects the travel ban and other recent US policies are having, or will lead to, on adolescents, SAHM, the United States and the world. The statement includes contributions from members from more than a dozen countries.


SAHM Sends Letter to Congress in Support of Title X

The recent Trump administration travel ban stands in direct opposition to the mission of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, an international organization committed to improving the physical and psychosocial health and well-being of all adolescents and young adults, regardless of religion or country of origin.
